Mats

Mats are severe tangles in the animal's fur.  Knotted and sometimes dread locked, these tangles usually cannot be brushed out - they have to be shaved out.  I can show you how to deal with mats, how to prevent them, and how dangerous they can be.

If a groomer or pet parent tries to brush out severe mats, it HURTS THE ANIMAL if you don't know what you're doing, AND if you don't know when to stop and just shave it!  Brushing out mats can make the skin red or even bleed.  Shaving out mats that have become so tight to the skin is also very dangerous.

Matted ears can be so serious that the dog will have swollen hematomas even after the mats have been shaved out.  Blood circulation gets cut off because of tightly matted hair and left long enough can obviously damage the ears permanently. Once ear mats are shaved and the blood does start to circulate once again, it tickles and tingles just like your foot does after "falling asleep"!  This causes the dog to shake their heads, often times to the point of making them bleed.
